Peachie's Pick Stoke's Aster

A wildflower native to the United States, Stokes' aster has been refined by plant experts to produce cultivars with larger and more colorful flowers, making it a staple of the formal garden. It is a perennial, producing cornflower-like flowers that bloom from early to late summer on erect stems with medium green leaves. 'Peachie's Pick' is a compact cultivar with blue flowers on erect stems, growing 12 to 18 inches tall. It is named after Peachie Saxton, who discovered the plant. The plants are easy to grow in full sun and are heat tolerant, but require well-drained soil—wet soil is their nemesis. Use this aster in rock gardens and in the front of perennial borders, where it will attract butterflies.
