Raydon's Favorite Aromatic Aster

Aromatic aster 'Raydon’s Favorite' is a mounded perennial that reaches a maximum size of 3 three feet. From mid-September to October, it produces showy violet blue flowers that attract birds and butterflies. One of the last species of aster to bloom, it is called aromatic aster because of the sticky, scented glands on the small, narrow leaves. The species is native throughout much of eastern and central North America. It requires full sun and moderate-to-dry moisture conditions and will withstand several frosts before the flowers fade. It makes an attractive addition to the wildflower garden, mixed border, or annual displays. It was awarded the 2016 Plant of the Year by the Garden Club of America.
